So after testing out a Dell x50 (520 Mhz version), I agree that it is basically n times superior to my old Palm IIIxe (okay this obvious I know):
-Basic organizer? Fine enough
-Watching movies? Magnificent
-Listening to music? Brilliant
-WiFi Web-browsing? More than satisfactory

However, the 320×240 display is just that little insufficient for reading journals from JSTOR or reading comics. Now I am thinking of a Dell x50v/x51v with 640×480 display…

Not until I browse through ebay in search of a multi-card reader do I realize how many listings are Hong Kong sellers–and regret that I did not buy it during summer.

Just bought two See’s Mike Chocolate with Almonds bars from two kids (9 and 10 respectively) working for their school’s fund raising. One seldom see this kind of activity in Hong Kong, not without someone elder surpervising. Well cats here are allowed to wander around the neighborhood as they wish too, so kids are no-big-deal.

Transforming real individuals into comics is often a tradeoff between realism and aesthetic. Comics characters usually have unrealistic features like big eyes, pointly hair and exaggerated body proportions that enhance their appearances. This is probably not a great issue in political comics, since individuals were usually portraited, let’s say, humorously. In other cases where aesthetic is not negligible, significant tradeoffs often occur. Can we possibly have the best of both worlds? Well, take a favorite comic character of yours, try imagining a photo of him/her and see if it works out.

draw_1Hair plays a very central role in comics, or more specifically manga. The distinguishment of different characters relies heavily on hair designs. Next time you read a comic book try to mentally remove the hair from different characters; very often you would find the faces of different characters are indistinguishable from each other. This also means actually portraiting real individuals (as in political comics) require more effort, for simply changing the hair design would not work.

Finally got a set of speakers. My room’s sound system now consists of a single mixed output from the desktop and the keyboard, switchable between the speakers and headphones.

Finally fixed my desktop computer today–it turns out that the ps/2 ports are malfunctioning. Acccompanied me for over four years and crossed nation and state borders, this computer has seen its days; how long will it be able to stay with me?
